Cosmos (very good Mod)

For the people new to Cosmos:
http://www.wowwiki.com/Cosmos
and
http://www.wowwiki.com/Cosmos_Beginners_Guide

A list of Cosmos questions and answers:

What is Cosmos?

Q) What is Cosmos?
A) A simple question, with a complex answer - so it gets its own page at What is Cosmos? :)

Installing/Uninstalling Cosmos:

Q) How do I install Cosmos if nothing is displaying under "Select Cosmos Distribution"
A) Download a copy Cosmos (here (http://www.cosmosui.org/cosmos/)), the alpha or beta, and extract directly to your Interface folder. You won't have to use the executable to install Cosmos. Slightly more detailed instructions are available at the top of the Cosmos page, along with some mirror sites for the download.

Q) Which version should I use?
A) Alpha is the latest version. It may contain new bugs which haven't been fully tested yet (although all releases go through some testing first). On the plus side, it will contain the latest and (hopefully) greatest changes, and the latest bug fixes. Often this will be the only working version shortly after a Blizzard patch, as all version numbers have to be updated (this should change soon though!). Beta is the older, more stable version. It won't have new bugs in it, but conversely it might also be missing the latest bug fixes. The "Lite" versions simply contain a more basic set of AddOns for people that prefer the slimline version.
European users: Go to Sarf's site (http://www.fukt.bth.se/~k/wow/cosmos/oldcosmos/) and get the latest Euro release from there. You may need to edit .toc numbers yourself when there's a Euro release out of sync with the US. New! See http://www.cosmosui.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2104 for temporary fix for the latest patch (18/12/04).
I'm hoping to give some improved Euro support once I get into Euro beta, if there are any Euro-based UI developers that'd like to help though, please do!

Developers: Sometimes you may find a more up-to-date alpha version at http://www.fukt.bth.se/~k/wow/cosmos/oldcosmos/ - but don't moan if there are bugs, it is alpha! Its best to use the official alpha download from cosmosui.org (http://www.cosmosui.org/cosmos/) unless you're having problems.

Q) Where can I get version XXX?
A) Try http://www.fukt.bth.se/~k/wow/cosmos/oldcosmos/ (Sarf's personal site, not an official Cosmos site)

Q) I'm having trouble installing with Cosmos.exe
A) Download the zip file manually from http://www.cosmosui.org/cosmos/ and read the instructions (http://www.fukt.bth.se/~k/wow/cosmos/oldcosmos/readme.txt). Do not run the Cosmos.exe if it gives you problems, run the WoW.exe

Q) How do I un-install Cosmos?
A) If you don't have any other mods, just delete your whole Interface folder. If you do have other mods, go in to the Interface/AddOns folder and delete all the unwanted AddOns, leaving behind the mods you want to keep. Be wary of deleting Addons which are dependencies for other AddOns.

Q) I uninstalled but I'm still seeing certain Cosmos-related behaviours. What now?
A) Cosmos also alters folders under the WTF directory. Most notably, you might have added some new key bindings or moved some windows about to help accomodate Cosmos. To restore your default UI, delete the WTF sub-directories for the relevant accounts/characters. Beware that you'll lose all your customised macros, chat-layouts, chat channel settings etc, so you may wish to backup first.

Q) I uninstalled, but still get the Cosmos chat channel coming up all the time. Why?
A) Try typing /leave Cosmos, WoW remembers what chat channels you were in from last time. If that fails, try renaming your WTFAccount<Account Name><Char Name>chat-cache.txt file. (Warning! I've not tried this myself - but if anything messes up just move the file back to the chat-cache.txt name.)

Q) I've installed Cosmos, what now?
A) You need to configure the options. See the Cosmos Beginners Guide for detailed instructions.

Q) Where's the Documentation?
A) The documentation is maintained via this Wiki site. The main page is Cosmos, from where you should be able to find the necessary links to the area you're interested in. For more generic information on the UI, you might want to start from the Interface Customization page.

Q) WoW was just patched and Cosmos doesn't work anymore, what do I do?
A) When WoW is patched, the version number of the client changes so you need to change the number in the TOC files of your Add-Ons. Using a program that does text replace, you want to replace ': (OLD VERSION NUMBER)' with ': (NEW VERSION NUMBER)'. The colon and space is important because it prevents changing of instances of the number in other places. You want to run this text replace on your entire interface folder (AddOns and FrameXML). --Necromancyr

Q) What's an AddOn?
A) See the AddOns page.

Q) What AddOns are available?
A) Cosmos itself consists of a collection of smaller Addons. See the list of Cosmos Addons and the Community AddOns List to see what's available. Note that Addons in the latter list are not necessarily anything to do with Cosmos, and might not necessarily be compatible.

Q) Can I use other AddOns with Cosmos?
A) It depends....most smaller AddOns will work fine, larger all-encompassing AddOns are less likely to. Some users have merged aspects of CT_Mod and Gypsy into Cosmos, taking their favourite parts from each. In general though, you will need to do some tweaking to get the big UI packages to work together, otherwise you're likely to get problems such as overlapping UI sections. As a general rule, if the AddOn is providing something Cosmos doesn't, and doesn't use the same screen area as a Cosmos utility you've activated, then they're likely to work ok together.

Q) What are the core Cosmos Addons?
A) The main dependencies are Cosmos, CosmosSchedule and Sea. Some Addons may have additional dependencies.

Q) What happened to the beloved fishing utility called Tacklebox?
A) I took it out to work on it. You can change the .toc file to say "4114" instead of "4026", but I'm not sure if it will work.

Q) How do I enable QuestShare?
A) Right now... you can't! QuestShare has been giving users some lag issues and we're working on new underlying code to make it work again! Hang on tight!

Q) I have an issue with PopBar (it has more keys than any other (about 20) and 2 rows(1 which seems to be in Auto-Hide'). There is a spot where it allows you to click and drag the window/keys. In a lag spike, I accidentally dragged it too far down, and it now resides behind the original UI (where the bags and original hotkeys are held). Is there any way to reset the window's location?
A) Yes, open Main Menu, select Cosmos Options, choose PopBar in the left hand navigation, then scoll the main window to the bottom and click the "Reset" button next to "Default PopBar Position"

Q) The Second Bar, Pet Bar, etc. is blocking the view on the chat. How can I move the chat?
A) Goto "Advanced Chat" in the Cosmos Options. There you can relocate the chat (i.e. by the slider "Moves ChatFrame vertically").

Q) My Tool Bar will not let me change out my spells/abilities for new ones. Where is the over ride for this?
A) You've probably hit the Lockbar button. LockBar adds a button that resides to the left of your main bar. It is barely touchable in 1024x768 (UI Scale 1). To override the LockBar the latest Cosmos distros use "shift". You can also delete the InterfaceAddOnsLockBar directory for a more permanent (and emotionally satisfying) solution if you don't like having buttons locked in place.

Q) Is Cosmos legal?
A) I'll let Blizzard answer that one: GM on Cosmos (http://www.blizzard.com/support/wowGM/?id=agm01480p).

Q) How do I put the information pop-up (tooltip) back in the bottom right corner?
A) Check the "Relocate Tooltip" checkbox in Cosmos Options.

Q) Will Cosmos affect my FPS (that's Frames Per Second, not First Person Shooter silly!)
A) Yes, to some degree. Cosmos causes the client to call additional functions at certain times (OnUpdate for example). Inevitably this will result in minor slowdown, but it shouldn't be very much. If you're experiencing significant slowdown, something more serious is wrong. Please post on the forums (http://www.cosmosui.org/forums) detailing which AddOns you have installed, and which are active. In particular, you may wish to try temporarily disabling all of Thottbot except the personal profile collection, Quest Minion and Quest Share. Also consider either quitting the Cosmos channel or installing ChatTraffic (http://www.cosmosui.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1614). If you're still having FPS issues and you're sure its Cosmos related, the DPS and Combat related mods would be next in line. At this point though, you should probably check your graphics settings and try turning down the terrain distance.

Q) I'm getting health bars appearing above NPCs all of a sudden - how do I turn this off?
A) This is a default Blizzard option, but many people seem to think its a Cosmos issue. You probably hit "V" by mistake. Press it again to toggle on/off. (Check keybindings in case you re-mapped it somewhere else if this doesn't work)

Q) How do I disable autorun on the Cosmos patcher?
A) Open the Registry Editor (run -> regedit)
Go to "HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareThottbot"
Check out the "autoRunWoW" value. Set it to zero (0) or simply delete it to stop Cosmos from auto running WoW when it is done patching.
